- Abstract
The study has been conducted to examine the relation between the communication skills of the parents with pre-school children and the social skills and problem behaviours of their children.,it is used to investigate whether there is a relationship between parents' communication skills and their children's social skills and problem behaviors in this research. The participants of the study consists of children of 48-72 months attending to the nursery classes, independent kindergartens and private kindergartens of the official primary schools in the central districts of Aziziye, Palandöken and Yakutiye of the Erzurum Province in the academic year of 2015-2016. The sample of the study consists of 577 children and their parents who were chosen by the random cluster sampling method. The study used the "General Knowledge Form" the "Preschool and Kindergarden Behaviour Scala (PKBS-2"), and the "Parent-Child Communication Evaluation Tool". As a result of the study; It was determined that the communication skills of the parents varied according to the variables of mother-parent variable, education status of the mother, education status of the father (p<0.05), but didn't vary according to the variables like the marriage year of the parents (p>0.05). A positive and significant relation was found between the scores of the children from the total of the "Social Skill Scale" and the scores of their parents from the subdimension of the "Parent Child Communication Evaluation Tool" namely Speaking, Listening, Non-verbal Communicatio, Empathy and Message. A negative and significant relation was found between the scores of children from the total of the "Problematic Behaviour Scale" and the scores of their parents from the subdimensions of the "Parent- Child Communication Evaluation Tool" namely Speaking, Non-verbal Communication and Empathy (p<0.05).
