- Abstract
The Lula da Silva's foreign policy (2003-2010) was subject to controversy. Debate arose among groups who argued that it was "contaminated by anti-Americanism and ideological orientation" and those who believed that the country only acted in a pragmatic way. This controversy seems to be another chapter of divergent views on Brazil-US relations that has been manifested, at least, since the proclamation of the Republic in Brazil in 1889. The article analyzes and compares economic and political data of the presidential terms of Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995 -2002) and Lula da Silva (2003-2010) verifying the influence of the alleged 'anti-Americanism' in the latter.
