- Abstract
The article discusses inns and innkeepers in New Hampshire during the colonial period. It examines seventeenth and eighteenth century legislation relating to taverns, inns, and public houses regulating gambling and the consumption of alcohol and providing for government inspections. The author also comments on a petition from residents of Londonderry, New Hampshire to the state's General Assembly complaining of too many taverns. A detailed list of colonial innkeepers from several New Hampshire towns is also presented.
