- Authors

- Abstract
This article offers a look at the rising populism among peasants in China. The rapid economic growth of China after the economic reform of Deng Xiaoping in 1978 has lifted millions of Chinese out of poverty. However, this success marked the increase in rural protests by peasants adversely affected by economic growth. It explains that populism is not a new phenomenon in China. Mao Zedong used populism to create a communist state. It described that the rising populism of peasants is local and disorganized and cannot threaten the Communist Party of China.
