- Authors
Vaughan, David K.
- Abstract
The article traces the history of the creation of the Lumbermen's Monument near Au Sable River in Michigan by exploring the correspondences of Saginaw lumbermen William Butt Mershon, who was primarily responsible for the monument's creation. In exploring the letters, details such as persons, decisions and motivations emerged that illuminate the process by which the monument was erected. Mershon argued that the monument aimed to honor the lumbermen who pioneered lumbering efforts in Michigan.
