- Abstract
The research results show that due to the aging population in Germany, reforms in the pension system are necessary. One possible measure to stabilize the pension system would be a rule-based increase in the retirement age. The OECD estimates that the retirement age in member states will increase by an average of two years by the mid-2060s. Other European countries such as the Netherlands, Finland, and Sweden have already taken measures to adapt their pension systems to the increasing life expectancy. The article describes various pension systems in European countries and discusses possible reforms for the German pension system.
