- Title
The Athens Convention Revisited.
- Authors
Peltz, Robert D.
- Abstract
The article discusses the 1974 Athens Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea and liability for injuries sustained aboard ships as of October 2012, focusing on the cruise industry's use of disclaimers and other limitations as a means of avoiding legal liability for passenger injuries. It states that the U.S. Congress has never ratified the Athens Convention, so its terms do not apply to cruise ship accident lawsuits filed under American maritime law.
