- Abstract
The study aimed to explore the relationship between irrational beliefs and presenteeism among employees of the State Police force of Latvia. One hundred ninety-eight participants took part in the study (40% women) with the average age 35,5 years. Three questionnaires were used in the study: General Attitudes and Beliefs Scale-Short Form, GABS-SF (Lindner et al., 1999), Stanford Presenteeism Scale, SPS-6 (Koopman et al., 2002) and Health and Work Performance Questionnaire, WHO-HPQ (Kessler et al., 2003). A positive correlation between irrational beliefs and presenteeism was found. However, the way of measuring presenteeism determined to what extent it was explained by irrational beliefs. The decline in quality of work due to poor health was explained primarily by irrational beliefs about the need of comfort.
