- Authors
Kurz, Heinz D.
- Abstract
The article looks at the journalism work of 19th-century political philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It notes Marx was editor of the "Neue Rheinische Zeitung" newspaper in the 1840s and that the two men wrote many articles for the "New York Tribune" and other newspapers in the ensuing decades. It cites subjects on which the two reported, including economic conditions in the U.S., the Crimean War, and Great Britain's opium trade in China. Other topics include the impact of reporting on the U.S. economy on Marx's thought, why he did not finish his work "Das Kapital," and the role of slavery in the development of capitalism in the U.S.
