- Abstract
The article reports that the growth of the handloom industry in Panipat, India is stifled. The reason why the handloom industry is having difficulty in competing in the international market is cited. It notes that the economic decline brought exports down to 2,840 crores in 2008-2009. An executive member of the Handloom Exports Manufacturers Association (HEMA) stresses the need for the government to guide the handloom makers on the kind of products they need to manufacture.
