- Title
India consolidates its position as 2nd cotton grower.
- Abstract
The article reports that India retains its position as the second largest producer, user and exporter of cotton globally for the August 2006-July 2007 season. India stole the second position from the U.S. as cotton growers in the U.S. shifted to other crops. In 2007, India produced 4.746 million tones of cotton, while the U.S. produced 4.7 million tones. Cotlook estimates that India's cotton production for the next session will reach 5.61 million tones, while the U.S. production will decline to only 3.19 million tones.
