- Abstract
Language technologies have been an integral part of the translation field for a number of years, and they have undoubtedly had a significant impact on professional translation practice and translator training. Among these technological innovations, one in particular is gradually entering the translation industry and has the potential to considerably influence the day-today work of professional translators in the near future: voice recognition (VR) technology. This article examines the advantages and inherent educational challenges of integrating VR into translation practice. First, we briefly introduce VR and discuss the extent to which it has been incorporated into translation research, practice and teaching, and we define the concept of interactive translation dictation (ITD). Then we describe the nature and different forms of sight translation. Lastly, we advocate the integration of ITD into professional translator training programs.
