- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which compared the marks produced by fluorescent compounds in statolith staining of Loligo forbesi to validate the squids' age. Researchers used 16 adult and sub-adult squids that were caught by hand jigging near Faial Island, Azores. They examined the statoliths under ultraviolet (UV) light and analyzed the relationships between the squids' survival and compound concentration and between survival and dorsal mantle length (DML) using Spearman rank correlations.
