- Abstract
The present study reports the identification of two newly recorded species of the genus Melanoleuca, M. alboflavida and M. griseobrunnea, in Japan, along with descriptions and illustration of its morphological characteristics. A slender, straight, cartilaginous, whitish stipe and lageniform to fusiform pleuro- and cheilocystidia are distinctive features of M. alboflavida. Melanoleuca griseobrunnea is characterized by a pale grey-brown pileus, a pale greyish to brownish context in stipe base, and urticiform cheilocystidia. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear rDNA ITS region support the identity of two species, and they suggest that M. alboflavida and M. griseobrunnea are placed in subgenera Melanoleuca and Urticocystis, respectively.
