- Abstract
The article "Latin plouum as a Gaulish loanword: a new Celto-Germanic isogloss" examines the etymology of the Latin word "plouum," which refers to a plow. The author proposes a new Gaulish reconstruction that leads to "plouum" and practically equates Gaulish and Proto-Germanic words. Alternative suggestions for the origin of the word are also discussed, including a possible Raetic or Germanic origin. It is argued that the similarity between the Gaulish and Germanic words suggests that it could be a shared loanword. It is noted that further research is needed to clarify the relationship between Celtic and Germanic.
