- Abstract
A characteristic feature of the Roman period in terms of legal rhetoric is the rapid development of laws, their codification and the establishment of procedures. Thus, during the Roman Republic, legal procedures were advanced and legal rhetoric became an important part of the judiciary. Legal rhetoric has become an important part of the work of lawyers who used rhetoric to persuade judges and the public during litigation. Legal rhetoric has also been part of the lawmaking process, through discussions and arguments about the laws. At that time rhetoric was also included in forensics which proved the need argue laws. The most important period of Roman rhetoric includes the period of Cicero who was also a revolutionary of modern rhetoric. He developed the rhetoric and defined the basic criteria that a lawyer had to have in order to be successful in his work, because much of the legal process in ancient Rome depended on the rhetoric used by lawyers.
