- Abstract
INTRODUÇÃO Dados epidemiológicos confirmam o aumento mundial da prevalência do câncer. No Brasil, as estimativas do Instituto Nacional de Câncer são de 66.280 casos novos em 2022. É consenso que as mudanças no estilo de vida são fatores de risco independentes para o processo carcinogênico. Por outro lado, é comum que as alterações metabólicas e digestivas do tratamento antineoplásico reduzam o consumo alimentar, e o próprio diagnóstico do câncer per se contribua para uma modificação do padrão dietético usual. Com base no exposto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar o consumo alimentar habitual de frutas e fast-foods entre pacientes oncológicos e não oncológicos internados em uma clínica de cirurgia geral. MÉTODOS Estudo de delineamento transversal, desenvolvido com amostra não probabilística de pacientes candidatos a cirurgias internados em um hospital público de Maceió-AL durante o período de agosto a outubro de 2021. O consumo alimentar foi obtido através de um questionário de frequência alimentar validado para o estudo de dieta e doenças crônicas não transmissíveis, onde foi considerada a ingestão dos 6 meses prévios ao internamento. As análises específicas para a avaliação do consumo habitual de frutas e fast-foods (utilizados como proxy para um padrão alimentar saudável e não saudável) foram feitas através do método dos escores. A associação do consumo com o diagnóstico de câncer foi feita com o teste U de Mann-Whitney. Para todas as comparações foi adotado o p≤0,05 para significância estatística e p≤0,10 para constatação de significância marginal. Esta pesquisa foi previamente submetida e aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa com Seres Humanos da Universidade Federal de Alagoas (CEP/UFAL), sob Certificado de Apresentação e Apreciação Ética (CAAE), nº 47896321.9.0000.5013. RESULTADOS Foram avaliados 30 pacientes cirúrgicos, dos quais 50% foram oncológicos. Dentre os participantes, 33,3% foram do sexo masculino, 80% eram idosos e a maioria apresentou excesso de peso (96,7%), segundo o índice de massa corporal. De maneira geral, identificou-se maior mediana do consumo de frutas em comparação aos fast-foods (p<0,001), especialmente no grupo de pacientes oncológicos, os quais evidenciaram uma tendência para a maior ingestão destes alimentos (p<0,10). CONCLUSÃO O consumo mediano de frutas foi estatisticamente maior na amostra de pacientes oncológicos e não oncológicos avaliada. Houve ainda uma significância marginal para a ingestão de frutas nos indivíduos diagnosticados com câncer, o que reflete um provável estímulo para a inclusão rotineira destes alimentos no padrão dietético destes pacientes em decorrência do processo neoplásico.
