- Abstract
Objective: To analyze the labeling of foods sold in accordance with current norms and legislation related to production and sale, aiming at their subsequent adaptation to the promotion of Food and Nutritional Safety of the population that consumes them. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with members who process food by hand and sell them at a Solidarity Economy and Family Farming fair located in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais. Socioeconomic, demographic and housing characterization of those responsible for the enterprises, analysis of the labels of the food sold and a semi-structured interview with the farmers were carried out in order to assess their perception of the importance of labeling. Results: The sample consisted of 11 enterprises. It was found that 63,3% (n=7) of the entrepreneurs were female, 45,4% (n=5) with a mean age of 43,9 years (± 8,78), 54,5% (n==6) had 3 to 5 residents in their residence and 27,3% (n=3) lived in poverty. In total, 72 products were analyzed, 12,5% (n=9) had labels with complete information, 47,2% (n=34) had incomplete information and 40,3% (n=29) had no labeling. With the aid of a semi-structured interview, a similarity analysis was carried out. Conclusion: The inclusion of complete labels on products processed by family farmers is important because it allows increasing sales to institutional markets, brings greater profitability to the family and favors the consumer with easy and clear access to complete information of what you are consuming.
