- Abstract
The article "A Political Cultural History of the Self in the 20th Century" presents various contributions to the political cultural history of the self in the 20th century. Topics such as modernity in the Rhineland, the colonial connections between Düsseldorf and the Rhineland with Africa and Asia, the travel diaries of Marie Pauline Thorbecke, and the significance of objects in museums and memorials are discussed. The anthology offers informative and research-rich insights into the exploration of dealing with colonial past and its postcolonial implications. The authors examine various topics related to the history of the self, but mainly focus on the second half of the 20th century. However, the article criticizes that the contributions do not sufficiently address the editor's conceptual considerations and do not clearly differentiate themselves from other approaches.
