History, Memory, and Violent Pasts in Latin America.

- Abstract
The histories of most Latin American countries and peoples carry strong legacies of human rights violations. These traumatic pasts are by no means dead: instead, their legacies inform peoples’ present-day experiences and struggles, just as many of the structural inequalities that have caused violence prevail. In this context, how can historians and historical thinking contribute to the much-needed transformation that can help societies transition from past atrocities to future social justice?
