- Abstract
The author describes his own experiences with keeping ten species of lizards of the genus Phelsuma at home. The first part of this article describes the way he keeps the animals, concerning feeding, light, the enclosures, vegetation, taxonomy, sex-determination and breeding. The second part describes the ten species of Phelsuma (P. grandis, P. guimbeaui, P. klemmeri, P. laticauda, P. lineata, P. nigristriata, P. ornata, P. pasteuri, P. quadriocellata and P. standingi) he takes care for. Important is the size of the enclosure, depending on the species of Phelsuma. Food is given irregularly, spraying is done almost every day. The lights are on for twelve hours a day. The temperature of the room fluctuates from season to season: in winter about 25°C, in summer about 35°C. The temperature drops at night. When the temperature rises to almost 40°C (like last summer) the lights are shut off, windows are opened, and a fan starts to work. The juveniles are being reared apart, because often the adults will feed on them.
