- Abstract
The article "Eastern European Studies: a field in transition" deals with the crisis in Eastern European studies, which is evident both institutionally and in terms of content. The number of students in Slavic studies has significantly decreased in the last two decades, and many institutes and chairs are being cut or forming alliances. The geopolitical crisis, particularly the Russian invasion of Ukraine, is also changing the status of Russian studies and Russian literature. There are debates about the importance of researching Eastern European literature, language, and history, and whether the focus on Russian culture and history should be overcome. Despite the current crisis, the discipline of Eastern European studies could potentially gain more popularity in the future.
