- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the presence of Leishmania DNA in FlorianÓpolis in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The researchers used Leishmania-nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (LnPCR) in targeting the gene small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid (SSUrRNA) in screening the local phlebotomina sand fly fauna and detecting the presence of Leishmania DNA. Leishmania DNA was present in pooled samples of Lutzomyia neivai.
