- Abstract
The article focuses on the pooled nucleic acid amplification test (p-NAAT) screening initiated by the New York City Department of Health and Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) at four sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinics in May 2008. Clinics were selected based on their human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing volume in 2007. The findings of the screening conducted confirm that p-NAAT can increase in HIV infection (AH1) diagnoses among high risk STD clinic patients and indicate that AHI diagnoses can be made apart from p-NAAT screening programs. The result of the study has made NYC DOHMH expand p-NAAT screening to all 9 New York City STD clinics and improve ascertainment of AHI in routine surveillance.
