This article discusses the diagnosis and treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). Strategies for preventing the disease including proper sanitation and minimizing periods of intubation are noted. The treatment and diagnostic measures described note the challenges associated with hospital acquired infections that occur in a critical care context.
