- Abstract
The article investigates research into medical conflicts-of-interest and the psychological nature of unintentionally succumbing to bias. A review of studies concerning the neuropsychology, behavioral economics, cognitive psychology, and clinical epidemiology associated with medical bias is presented. The practice of post hoc rationalization of biased actions in order to appear objective is analyzed. How individual judgments can be influenced by the first information encountered is examined. The effect disclosure has on conflict-of-interest perception and professional bias is assessed.
