- Abstract
The article focuses on the importance of poetry awards for children and young adults in Australia. It is mentioned that the event is not just a competition but it is about opening doors, form of writing and expanding the person imaginative. It is noted that the 2006 Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Award is the biggest poetry writing competition for school-aged children in the country. Moreover, former education minister Doctor Brendan Nelson says that poetry is a powerful tool as it provides children with the imaginative capacity to see the world through the eyes of others.
