- Abstract
The editorial in the Sociological Review is dedicated to the book "Marriage in Germany: A Sociological Analysis of Change, Continuity, and Future" by Rosemarie Nave-Herz. The authors of the symposium contribution, Heike Trappe and Anne-Kristin Kuhnt, describe the book as the author's magnum opus. Bernhard Nauck and Johannes Stauder engage with Nave-Herz's thesis that marriage is an independent form of life with specific meanings. Nauck supports this thesis with family-historical research, while Stauder presents the multitude of interrelationships between marriage and family as a counterargument. According to Nauck, Nave-Herz's book offers a comprehensive description and analysis of marriage in Germany, while Stauder believes that it does not provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of family sociological research on marriage.
