- Abstract
Fusobacterium nucleatum is an opportunistic pathogen found in the normal human flora. It settles in subgingival plaques of people with poor oral hygiene. In immunosuppressed patients, it can cause deep and progressive tissue damage and periodontitis. Periodontitis developing in women in reproductive age group is related with adverse pregnancy effects such as preterm birth, early membrane rupture, and even fetal death. We presented a 24-year-old primigravid and preterm woman who applied with manifestations of sepsis in the 26th week of pregnancy with acute chorioamnionitis in which F. nucleatum was isolated in anaerobic culture performed because of the bad smell during the labor.
