- Abstract
The article offers the author's insight on AIDS activism in the U.S. and the roles of artists associated with the Clean Needles Now (CNN) initiative of the Los Angeles Needle Exchange, relative to the 20th anniversary of CNN exchange. The author discusses the influence of both art and politics in the campaign and the legacy of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP). The author says that art became a way for CNN organizers to reject the opposition between direct service and direct action. INSET: SOME WAYS OF SHOOTING DRUGS ARE SAFER THAN OTHERS....
