- Authors
Deeken, John F.; Weiner, Louis M.
- Abstract
The author discusses an article by S. Vadhan-Raj and colleagues on the study of the effects of palifermin on mucositis in patients receiving intensive treatment for cancer including chemotherapy and radiation therapy, published within this issue. The author suggests that supportive care interventions, such as the use of palifermin, should be evaluated on the basis of 4 principles including doing no harm, improving the efficacy of overall treatment, reducing suffering and making it cost effective.
