- Title
Mechanostereochemistry: Breaking the rules.
- Authors
Frank, Irmgard; Friedrichs, Jana
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Woodward–Hoffmann rules. Such rule has been derived from the conservation of orbital symmetry during a chemical reaction that was pioneered by Robert Burns Woodward and Roald Hoffmann in the year 1965. The article indicates that the stereospecificity of a particular reaction type is the state where such rules have been applied. However, various studies have shown that the rules of Woodward-Hoffman can possibly be circumvented through force application in the breaking bond, as determined in the simulations of molecular dynamics.
