The article discusses the purpose of audit controls for electronic protected health information (e-PHI) access. Topics discussed include the key provisions of the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) pertaining to audit controls and the features of the corrective action plan (CAP) entered into by a public health care system as part of a HIPAA settlement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) for alleged access violations.
