The article describes the excavation findings of the earliest hotels in Texarkana, Arkansas under the Gateway Project of the Texas Archaeological Society, the Arkansas Archeological Society and Texarkana College. An overview is given of the early development of the railroad infrastructure of the West at the turn of the 20th century and the success of its resultant hospitality industry. Profiles are given for several establishments which were central to the community of Texarkana at the time. Description is also included of the excavations of 2004 and 2006 that pinpointed the locations of the Huckins House Hotel and East Side Hotel, along with the artifacts uncovered at them.
