- Abstract
Kathryn B.H. Clancy's book "Period: The Real Story of Menstruation" (2023, Princeton Press) is a thoughtful discussion of why humans have periods, why we have them when we do, and why they vary so much from woman to woman. Clancy then reviews the theoretical debates on the evolution of menstruation in humans, highlighting the key contributions of women scientists like Margie Profet (Profet, [6]) and Beverly Strassman (Strassmann, [7]). Chapter 6 (" I The Future of Periods" i ) considers the various technologies currently used to "manage" menstruation (e.g., hormonal contraception and menstrual hygiene products).
