- Abstract
This study focuses on the story called İskender-i Zülkarneyn'iñ Tevellüdi which mentions the birth of Alexander the Great and his enthronement. The roots of the story go back to Taberî's history and Şehnâme and the very same story has been told among Uzbeks and Turkmen under the names of İskenderbek and İsgender Patışa respectively. The subject has also been mentioned with some differences in İskendernâme type works written in Turkish and Persian. Nizâmî's, Ahmedî's, Ahmed-i Rıdvân's and Ali Şîr Nevâyî's works on the same subject are sources in which the story can be fallowed. The Story is analyzed on the basis of the titles of "birth", "naming" and "suzerainty" and the comparisons are made with above mentioned texts. Events took place before and after birth, his up-bringing and education issues have been subjected in the birth section. The nature of the names given as Alexander and Zülkarneyn and the myths around them analyzed in the part of naming. Reunion of Alexander with his mother (he had been separated so long) and related prophecies, visions and various accounts referring to his sovereignty are examined in the suzerainty section. Moreover, the text of the story is given at the end of the study.
