- Abstract
The article focuses on the approval of Difficid (fidaxomicin) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an oral drug for the treatment of adults with diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile. It mentions lipiarmycin as the original name of Difficid when it was first discovered by Italian researchers 40 years ago. It also notes the condition that will be treated by Dificid called C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) or antibiotic-associated diarrhea that was recognized in the 1950s which typically arises after treatments with antibiotics.
