- Abstract
The article profiles the professional life of archaeologist V. Gordon Childe. His work as private secretary to John Storey, Labour Premier of New South Wales, and his involvement with the Australian Labour Party are discussed. Childe's book "How Labour Governs," his disenchantment with contemporary society and involvement with prehistoric cultures, and his interest in the Marxist model of prehistory are examined. His connection between the disciplines of archaeology and history are explored. The influence of the political conditions Childe experienced on his intellectual development is also discussed.
