- Authors
Burgess, Stephen F.
- Abstract
The article discusses United States' foreign policy during former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s administration. Particular focus is given to the concept of “assertive multilateralism” unveiled by former U.S. Secretary of State and Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Madeleine Albright. United States’ involvement in a peacekeeping operation in Mogadishu, Somalia, its subsequent adoption of the “burden-sharing” doctrine, and the replacement of former UN Secretary General Boutros Ghali are also discussed.
