- Abstract
This article examines the presidential legacy question for presidents who conduct wars of choice. We first discuss the variables associated with wars of choice placing them on a continuum. We then assess these variables as applied to two presidents that have conducted wars of choice, James Madison and the War of 1812 and George W. Bush and the Iraq War. We then draw some conclusions concerning the presidential legacies of not only these two presidents but also other presidents who have conducted wars of choice.
