- Abstract
The article focuses on fictional representation of English High Court judge Fiona Maye in the book "The Children Act" by Ian McEwan and representation of an actual judge, Justice Sharon Johns, at her swearing-in ceremony in the Family Court of Australia. It mentions struggle by women to enter the legal profession was a marked dimension of first wave feminism at the turn of the 20th century. It also mentions periodic anxiety about elderly gravids, autism, adoption and surrogate mothers.
