Joaquin Murieta: ícono de un a modemidad disputada.
- Authors
Gerassi-Navarro, Nina
- Abstract
This article analyzes a few of the literary reinscriptions of frontier bandit Joaquin Murieta, in order to rethink border issues and the construction of national identities beyond spatial and linguistic relations. The cultural reinscriptions of Joaquin Murieta make it possible to reconsider the process of de-territorialization and the construction of new socio-cultural cartographies. Thus, the Murieta myths and legends may serve as the point of departure for the rethinking of identity as the product of a cultural practice that no longer necessarily depends on a geography or a language.
