- Abstract
In this day and age, visual literacy skill has been a widespread skill through spreading knowledge and developing technology. Art criticism method be considered as contribute to the development of visual literacy skills because of it provides the examination by making visual and intellectual analysis. The research aimed to "determine the effect of the art criticism method on the visual literacy skills of the students in the 8th grade visual arts lesson". The study group of the research consisted of 90 students, 60 girls and 30 boys, studying in the 8th grade. Both of the control group and the experimental group has been constituted same as 45 students. Measurement required and "pre-test and post-test controloriented quasi-experimental model" has been practiced to the control and experimental groups before and after the application. Visual Literacy Competence Scale has been applied as a pre-test and post-test. While lessons were conducted with the ordinary curriculum program in the control group, lessons were conducted with the art criticism method in the experimental group. Findings has been analyzed whether a significant difference before and after the experiment regarding the visual literacy skills of pedagogical art criticism on students in 8th Grade Visual Arts classes. The research has clearly revealed that the visual literacy skills of the students is more increased by pedagogical art criticism method than ordinary arts education on the visual arts course.
