- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of poems by English Romantic poet Robert Southey including "The King of the Crocodiles," "Joan of Arc, An Epic Poem," and "Thalaba the Destroyer." It examines Southey's poetry in light of the genres of Gothic ballad poetry and epic poetry and the theme of the Catholic faith. Other works discussed include the poems "The Cross Roads," "The Old Woman of Berkeley: A Ballad Shewing How an Old Woman Rode Double, and Who Rode Before Her," and "All for Love."
