- Abstract
An essay is presented on the experience of movement in an urban cityscape of the characters while reading Charles Dickens' fiction novels like characters Kate and Nicholas moving around London to look for a place to live and character Amy Dorrit leaving the Marshalsea. The novels depict arrival scenes in old London metropolis that present danger and opportunity for the newcomer characters. The urban scenes and dynamism sensitize the readers to the realities of poverty, violence and alienation.
