The article discusses the legal rights of patentees in America and a proposed model to analyze reverse-payment settlements, focusing on the U.S. Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act (Hatch-Waxman Act) and various drug-related patent-infringement lawsuits in the U.S. The marketing of generic drugs is mentioned, along with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and American anti-trust laws. The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the FTC v. Actavis Inc. patent lawsuit is examined.
