Afghanistan's war-torn wildlife.
- Authors
Gewin, Virginia
- Abstract
The article reports on the survey which found that large mammals appear to be enduring in Nuristan, Afghanistan. The survey found evidence of the common palm civet in the country, however, it found little evidence of the species that are of greatest conservation concern in the region such as musk deer and snow leopard. Peter Zahler, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) deputy regional director for Asia, suggests that uncontrolled hunting and deforestation will drive species to local extinction.
