TAMING THE EMPLOYMENT SHARKS: THE CASE FOR REGULATING PROFIT-DRIVEN LABOR MARKET INTERMEDIARIES IN HIGH MOBILITY LABOR MARKETS.
- Authors
Freeman, Harris; Gonos, George
- Abstract
The article focuses on the profit-driven labor market intermediaries, which are now integrated into the labor market with the appearance of temporary staffing agencies and for-profit, labor contractors in the U.S. A 2005 data revealed that 414 U.S. dollars are the median weekly income for a full-time temporary worker from an agency. It is noted that reviving the reach of state employment agency statutes and reforming the labor law to protect non-standard workers could address this trend.
