- Abstract
The article discusses the literary nihilism embodied in the works of "The Book of Repulsive Women" and "Ladies Almanack" author Djuna Barnes in the context of the lesbian-feminist agenda. It takes note of the ambiguity of her stance on lesbianism in the book "Nightwood" as well as of her acceptance of unconventional characterization as a means of liberation from social restrictions. Nancy J. Levine and Marian Urquilla are cited for their insight in the "Review of Contemporary Fiction."
