The author offers ideas for teaching chemistry more environmentally friendly. She reflects on her experience of teaching chemistry from the perspective of an environmentalist. She identifies two goals of making chemistry laboratories more environmentally friendly, namely, to reduce the consumption of energy and resources and reduce the production of hazardous and nonhazardous waste. The article suggests to replace some chemicals with greener alternatives.
